I just had a baby wake up because I went to Forbes.com. For some insane reason Forbes decided that audio which automatically plays on their website was a good idea. It never is. Most of the time a website makes any noise I immediately hit the back button and I am sure I am not the only one. Usually I avoid this entirely by turning my speakers off, but they happened to be on so now I am staying up late.
Some good came of this though. I searched for ways to disable all sound on websites. I came up with a wonderful program called flashblock. It makes you press a play button before flash content will start. I haven't tested it on many pages but it sure shut up Forbes.
